Biography
Douglas P. Thompson, CPA, CFP™ has accumulated broad experience and comprehensive knowledge of business and tax issues, with a specialization in estate planning. His commercial experience includes consulting on tax and accounting issues for multiple location franchise operations (such as McDonald’s), quarry operations, aggregate product and strategic planning for a wide variety of other privately held business operations. He has served as a non-voting advisory board member for banking clients and as a board member for community banks. His management background has led to management and structural reorganization engagements for professional corporations, including medical and law firms.
Doug’s estate planning experience has brought him regional recognition for his knowledge of living trusts. He has used family limited partnerships, private annuities, GRIT’s, GRAT’s, and other techniques to assist clients in avoiding potential estate tax liability. Doug’s skill and reputation have led to engagements assisting attorneys in the Southern Illinois region with estate planning techniques for their clients, thus retaining client services for the local attorney. Doug received his master of business administration degree from Southern Illinois University in September of 1970. He was awarded the silver medal for the second highest test score in the state of Missouri for the May 1971 CPA examination. Doug’s career began in 1971 in the Mt. Carmel, Illinois office of Kemper CPA Group LLP. He was appointed managing office partner of the Harrisburg, Illinois office in 1977 and elected as a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee on November 12, 1984. Doug was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee on May 1, 1993.
